I. Advantages

Excellent thermal insulation: Known as “synthetic wool,” its thermal insulation properties are comparable to those of wool and superior to those of cotton and polyester. It is commonly used in warm fabrics for fall and winter.

High resistance to sunlight and weathering: It ranks among the top synthetic fibers in terms of UV resistance. It is resistant to aging, fading, and brittle breakage even after prolonged exposure to outdoor sunlight, making it suitable for curtains, outdoor fabrics, and sunshade products.

Fluffy, Soft, and Pleasant to the Touch: With high fiber crimp and excellent loft, it offers good resilience and resists flattening, making it suitable for blankets, scarves, and faux fur fabrics.

Lightweight: Lighter than wool, it feels weightless when worn.

Resistant to Acids, Alkalis, and Corrosion: It exhibits strong resistance to common chemicals, weak acids, and weak alkalis, is resistant to mold and moth damage, and is easy to store and maintain.

Affordable: Raw material and production costs are significantly lower than those of wool, offering excellent value for money.

Even dyeing and good colorfastness: Dyeing performance is stable, producing vibrant colors that resist fading during daily use.

II. Disadvantages

Poor moisture absorption and prone to static electricity: It has a low moisture regain rate and is highly prone to static electricity in dry environments; it tends to pill, cling to the body, and attract dust during wear and weaving.

Average abrasion resistance: Its strength and abrasion resistance are inferior to those of polyester and nylon; it is prone to pilling with prolonged friction and is not suitable for high-abrasion garments.

Limited heat resistance: It shrinks and softens easily at high temperatures; ironing temperatures must not be too high, and high-temperature drying should be avoided.

Breathability is relatively poor. Pure acrylic fabrics feel stuffy and are less comfortable against the skin than cotton or wool.

Strength decreases slightly when wet. Tensile strength is slightly lower when wet than when dry, making it unsuitable for undergarments that require frequent washing.

Flammable. It ignites easily when exposed to fire and forms hard, gummy lumps upon burning.
